“You always know when it’s your first time, don’t you? But you rarely know when it’s your final time.”–Richard Osman, The Thursday Murder Club
I love a good mystery and Richard Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club fits the bill. Can you call a murder mystery delightful? I submit that you can! Four septuagenarians in a retirement village form a club that meets weekly to work on unsolved crimes. They name their group The Thursday Murder Club and when an actual murder happens locally, they put their heads together to solve the crime. This doesn’t play well with the local police force who understandably are concerned about these senior citizens putting themselves in danger and muddying the investigative waters. Sit back and enjoy the ride as our senior super sleuths work together, make new friends, and ultimately unmask the killer.
This is a well written story that gives you clues along the way but offers twists and turns to keep you guessing. The characters are endearing and Joy, in particular, is a hoot. If you enjoy the book, you are in luck as there are three other books in the series so far, The Man Who Died Twice, The Bullet that Missed, and The Last Devil to Die.
