“Where a people prays, there is the church; and where the church is; there is never loneliness.”–Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Eric Metaxes has written a compelling and inspiring narrative with this biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Bonhoeffer was a respected and up and coming theologian who voluntarily returned from the safety of America to Nazi Germany. The Nazis sought to take control of the churches and many clergy fell in line with that effort. Bonhoeffer resisted and worked to protect the sanctity of the churches. When that was not enough, he joined the resistance, worked to smuggle Jews into Switzerland and was part of the Valkyrie plot. Bonhoeffer was a man of incredible conviction, faith, and moral courage during a time of horrific evil.
This book is lengthy but very readable and well worth your time.
