“No matter the odds, a man does not pin his last hope for survival on something and then expect that it will fail.”—Alfred Lansing, Endurance: Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage
In August 1914, Ernest Shackleton began his adventure to Antarctica on board The Endurance. After arriving, he planned to cross the continent on foot but after months battling through ice, and only a day away from its destination, The Endurance became locked in ice. Shackleton and his crew of twenty-seven men were stranded and when The Endurance was finally crushed, between the ice, they were forced to attempt the almost impossible—traveling 850 miles to the nearest outpost over rough seas in The Endurance lifeboats.
This is an incredible story and the Wall Street Journal called this book one of the best adventure stories ever written. If you read this during the winter, be sure to cozy up to a warm fire or snuggle under a blanket!
