“I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.”― Louisa May Alcott, Little Women

Little Women is a favorite of mine. I have read it several times and each time come away with a new appreciation for Louisa May Alcott and her writing. The little women are the four March sisters: Meg, the beauty; Jo, the writer; Beth, the frail musician; and Amy, the spoiled artist. They live in New England and when their father joins the Union forces as a chaplain, the lives of the girls and their beloved Marmee are forever changed. This coming of age book takes the reader on a journey with each of the March girls as they grow from girls to women with the attendant challenges, joys, sorrows, and life changing experiences. This glimpse into 19th century life was based on Alcott’s own childhood. It is a beautiful book with timeless themes that continues to resonate with modern readers.
