“Most of us lead far more meaningful lives than we know. Often finding meaning is not about doing things differently; it is about seeing familiar things in new ways. ”― Rachel Naomi Remen, My Grandfather’s Blessings

This is a book to read slowly and savor. You may also want to have a highlighter or notebook handy to mark quotes or write notations. This lovely book is made up of stories and anecdotes from the author, Rachel Naomi Remen and her grandfather. Remen is a pediatrician who spent much of her career counseling and treating those with chronic and terminal illness. Her grandfather was an Orthodox rabbi and scholar of the Kabbalah. “He enabled her to see that blessing one another is what heals the isolation and loneliness in us all. He didn’t do this by running out every week to volunteer somewhere. He did it by living life knowing that he belonged to it–that everyone belong to him, and that he belonged to everyone.” –from the front cover

This book helps us to see the impact for good our small, everyday acts can have on someone else. It also reminds us of the goodness of life and the blessings that abound. Remen’s grandfather was a wise man and we are blessed that Remen has chosen to share that wisdom with us.
