“One macronutrient, in particular, demands more of our attention than most people realize: not carbs, not fat, but protein becomes critically important as we age.”–Peter Attia, Outlive
If you want to live better and longer, this is a book that will interest you. Peter Attia believes that while medicine has helped us live longer, it has not reached its potential in helping us live better. Much of modern medicine is reactive and Attia espouses a much more proactive approach, something he calls Medicine 3.0. His goal is to stop or slow down the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse–heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s, and type 2 diabetes. He advocates for more interventional testing, earlier on. If you are looking for a miracle pill to help with everything, Attia reveals it is exercise–especially heavy weight lifting.
This is an incredibly informative book as well as inspiring. We don’t have to passively sit by as our bodies age and decline. We can choose to improve our health and begin training today for the “Centennial Decathlon.”
