“You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope…I have loved none but you.”― Jane Austen, Persuasion

Ahh, this book. I really, really love Jane Austen’s Persuasion. Anne Elliott is such a wonderful heroine and Captain Wentworth a gallant hero. Told with Austen’s trademark wit, insight, and colorful characters, this novel largely follows Sir Walter Elliott and his daughters, Elizabeth, Anne, and Mary. Anne is delightful but her two sisters and her father are something else! Anne fell in love with Captain Wentworth years earlier but was persuaded not to marry him because of his lack of money and his uncertain future in the navy. After seven years, Anne and Captain Wentworth meet again, both still single and unattached. Circumstances are very different this time around but with misunderstandings, past hurts, and the interference of others, Anne and the captain must decide if they are willing to give each other a second chance. This book does my heart good and I hope it does yours as well.
