“Child, child, do you not see? For each of us comes a time when we must be more than what we are.”― Lloyd Alexander, The Black Cauldron

This is the second of five books in The Chronicles of Pydain series and perhaps the most well known. It was a Newbery Honor Book in 1966 and has continued to appeal to readers young and old ever since. This book centers on the adventures of Taran, Assistant Pig Keeper and his companions as they journey into Arawn’s domain to destroy the Black Cauldron. As exciting as the journey is, it comes with difficulty and great sacrifices–ones they couldn’t have imagined at the onset. This book and series have stood the test for good reason and still have the power to transport the reader to a wonderful world of adventure.
