“If I have learned anything in this long life of mine, it is this: in love we find out who we want to be; in war we find out who we are.”–Kristin Hannah, The Nightingale
This is a haunting, yet beautiful novel of two sisters trying to survive the Nazi occupation of France. They view the world very differently and as a result, choose different paths to resistance and survival. Kristin Hannah delivers a story that shows war from women’s perspective and the heartbreaking realities the sisters face. This is not an easy read, but it is a valuable one.
