“Sometimes he wondered what else he’d sold on that Monday. His principles? His integrity?”–Sold On A Monday

2 Children for Sale–that is the sign reporter Ellis Reed sees while driving through the country in 1931. The depression is in full swing and the sign is indicative of the poverty and despair faced by many. Ellis snaps a photo of the sign and two young brothers. He does not intend to the publicize the photo but when it is printed, it launches his career. Unfortunately, that success comes at a terrible price and Ellis will do anything he can to make things right again.

This is a heart-wrenching story based on a real life photograph taken during the depression of a mother with four children and a sign indicating the children were for sale. The photo caused a huge sensation after it was published. This book is a work of fiction about what may have happened to the children that were sold. If you liked Lisa Wingate’s, Before We Were Yours, this book should be right up your alley. This was a page turner for me and I look forward to reading more from author Kristin McMorris.
